August. The height of summer. Time to celebrate – and maybe even soak up some sun, where you can find it.
Whether you’re warming up for the Edinburgh festivals, or in full-on Olympics fever, take some time out to enjoy food that’s good for body and soul.
We’ve not quite reached ‘the glorious twelfth’, the start of the game season, as we write, but you will find venison making an appearance on the menu.
Try our venison loin, Italian style, with rocket, Parmigiano Reggiano and Vincotto (pulped grapes, slow-cooked to caramelise and release further sweetness). It’s also part of our Calzone pizza.
Our special seasonal menu section features some wonderful Scottish seafood this month. Try Isle of Mull Scallops, seared and served with Amalfi lemon risotto and fresh pea shoots. There’s also fresh squid, basking in the wonderful Italian summer flavours of courgette, mint and lemon.
August is a wonderful month for fruit. It doesn’t come crisper or more refreshing than Italian watermelon, teamed with Italian goats cheese, cucumber, fresh mint and red wine vinegar.
Let’s not forget some of the wonderful veg coming to its peak at this time of year. For stunning simplicity, try our burrata, a triple cream cows milk cheese from Puglia, served with slow roasted Italian red and yellow peppers and extra virgin olive oil.
Don’t rush. Take your time deciding. It’s still summer, after all.
